Description
Race - Crystal unicorn
Backstory
At the Crystal Empire, Twilight was on a visit to assist Cadance in the installation of new stained glassed windows in the main hall. An accidental Come-To-Life spell struck one such window, and as a result the window itself came to life. Being an inanimate object before, she did not know how to speak or even know anything, akin to a new-born baby. Mosea is confused to her newly-given life; Twilight decides it's her responsibility to look after her as a teacher (and surrogate parent).
Biology
Mosea is a Crystal Unicorn. Every crystal pony in the Empire are Earth ponies by biology; this is an evolutionary necessity due to the fragility of crystals. The Earth ponies have natural stamina and endurance, which counterbalances the fragile nature of crystals. Mosea, having been brought into being by magical means, does not have this advantage, and is a unicorn as a result of that magical contact.
This has potent advantages and disadvantages. The crystal nature has been found to be conductive to magic; this provides her with potent, though narrow, range of magic. In particular, light-based spells come as little effort to her; the reflective nature of her horn and mane naturally amplify it.
The downside to her crystalline makeup is a high susceptibility to injury and breakage. Unicorns aren't noted for their durability, and her crystal makeup amplifies this weakness. She treats her mane with a vanity that pales Rarity's own, for good reason; it has the same structure as glass, meaning it will break easily and won't grow back. Her bone structure shares in this, meaning that even mild outdoor play is a high health hazard for her.
Her height was dependent on the window she came from. As it was a window made for gothic architecture, she has a height that dwarfs even Celestia. Celestia comes up to about the lower purple diamond on Mosea's chest.
Abilities
As she is essentially a living stained glass window in pony form, her horn, bone structure, and mane retain all physical properties of glass. Thus, they carry transparency and let light through, in different amounts and hues. Likewise, the mane and tail don't move or flow like normal; they are inflexible and made of pure glass. This means it can't grow back if broken, but she can at least use them to focus natural light.
After some basic magic training, she found a penchant for light-based magic. A normal light spell used by any other unicorn or alicorn would produce enough light to bring a comfy living room to midday levels; when Mosea uses the same level spell, it can bring a small stadium up to midday levels.
All other brands of magic she can use that aren't light based are also stronger than usual, due to the magic coming form her horn bending and refracting into itself before emitting. This includes unicorn-standard telekinesis; her first attempts to levitate a wine glass ended up accidentally crushing the glass into dust, much to her personal horror.
This unbridled potency in magic is matched by her extremely poor physical strength. She has much trouble lifting things without magic beyond 5 or 6 pounds, in no small part due to her glass-like physical makeup. Likewise, she avoids physical confrontation like the plague.
Her Cutie Mark is a Tetrad- Red/Green plus Orange/Blue. It gives her the special talent to arrange colors; from flower arrangement to a rave light-show to helping Rarity with an ensemble, it doesn't matter.
Personality
She is self-preservitive about her mane and tail, almost to paranoid levels. Justified, as they are made of particularly brittle glass; it breaks easily and doesn't grow back. Her horn is sturdier, made of thicker glass, but is still possible to break. This extends to personal grooming, which she prefers to keep spotless at all costs. She narcissistically believes herself to be a work of art (in a manner of speaking, she's right) and wishes to spend most of her time in a place where others can admire her.
She is ignorant to social customs and traditions; her time as a window didn't let her pick these things up. As such, she often makes a social mess (something Twilight's having a heck of a time trying to fix).
Underneath the narcissism and social ignorance, however, she is extremely stubborn and iron-willed about her decisions. If she makes up her mind to do something, not even Celestia can persuade her otherwise. The first time she exercised this was when she decided to learn magic from Twilight.
